Missionaries, pilots helping as they can

Relief supplies ready to be loaded for delivery to an island hit by Typhoon Haiyan.

The scope of the disaster is so great that a ton of rice is a drop in the bucket.

But NTM missionaries on the ground and NTM Aviation pilots are doing what they can to help those who have been hit by Typhoon Haiyan.

A major concern right now is Tropical Depression Zoriada, which is heading toward the southern part of the Philippines – the same region hit by Typhoon Haiyan.

“The greatest prayer need at the moment is that the Lord will rein in and re-direct the tropical depression that is headed our way,” wrote missionary pilot Josh Dalton. “I will be racing that storm today to get the first load of supplies in, and then we may be grounded for a day or two because of weather.”

With all NTM personnel now accounted for – both Filipinos and foreign missionaries – the mission’s full attention can be directed toward expressing God’s love and compassion to those who need it most.

“Because we are such a small operation, we don't have much infrastructure to aid in this effort, but we are doing our best and praying for wisdom for how to get involved,” wrote missionary pilot Joel Davis.

“We are getting lots of requests to help many organizations,” Joel wrote. “We got totally ready, airplane packed, local doctor on alert, and supplies on board today, but we are waiting to get an ‘all clear’ from a government agency on the ground that lets us know the airstrip is clear and they are ready for us to come and help.”

Meanwhile, in another part of the Philippines, missionary pilot Josh Dalton has already flown some survey flights for the Red Cross, and this morning set out for areas hit by the typhoon with 2,500 pounds of rice.

Missionaries who serve in the area will work with local government officials to ensure that the goods are distributed to those who need them most.

Zach Keller, another NTM Aviation pilot, is also keeping himself and his aircraft prepared to get involved as needed.
