A Taste of Back Country Flying

This fall’s flight training here at NTM Aviation is about half complete.  As part of the training, chief pilot Daren Spence did a 3-day-long cross country flight in New Mexico with the trainees, using back country airstrips.  This trip focused on navigation skills and mountain flying techniques including instrument flying, as well as scenarios mirroring what missionary pilots experience on the fields where we serve.  “One of those  situations involved fueling the aircraft back-country style from jerry cans,” said Daren, something most pilots never experience but is common for missionary pilots to do.
